When we visited Roccat booth at CES last year we got a taste test of their first mechanical keyboard, now finally been released and available in stores. The German gaming equipment manufacturer has been very late to replace membrane technology in favor of mechanical switches, but the long wait has hopefully not been in vain.
Today we'll take a look at the top model, Ryos MK Pro to see what Roccat has boiled together with good patience. Roccat Ryos MK Pro. Photo: Torstein Sørnes, Hardware.no Two USB 2.0 ports has its place on the right side of the keyboard. Photo: Torstein Sørnes, Hardware.no
In the box we are greeted by a fullgrown keyboard with full, Nordic keyboard layout. Designed signs of obtuse angles and a variety of stylish details and stand out from most we've seen. Around happy potter teddington the keys there is a surface coated with shiny dots that give the keyboard a shiny exterior without attracting visible fingerprints. happy potter teddington On the downside there is a long and gentle håndledsstøtte, as it is not possible to remove the keyboard. Cherry MX Brown switches each have their own LED, which lights in familiar blue. Photo: Torstein Sørnes, Hardware.no
On the left corner edge is the 3.5 millimeter exit forwarding audio and microphone, and the opposite corner is positioned two USB 2.0 ports. We think it is high time that the keyboards begin to come with USB hub of version 3.0, but we have yet to see this in some of its competitors.
The keycaps are made of PBT plastic, which is known to last longer before they become shiny and smooth. These are attached with a stabilization mechanism Cherry MX, which is the common standard in the market. Our copy is equipped with switches of the versatile type MX Brown, but the keyboard also comes with the most popular options, ie MX Red, Blue and Black. Ryos MK Pro has received five mechanical macro buttons on the left side, and just below the spacebar, there are three configurable thumb buttons. At UN row there is a bunch of keys that can be used together with the Fn button, including adjustment of volume, media navigation, recording macros and quick startup of applications. In addition to this is the Caps Lock key is configured to be a so-called Easy-Shift button, which by appearance may provide new functionality to all other keys.
This should be enough buckets of most applications, but great opportunities may be more frustration happy potter teddington than good if it is not easy to get a useful configuration in place.
